Porch Light
I’ve been denying my broken heart,
Living in a body, that’s been betrayed,
Sometimes I feel as if I live inside a grave.
I wonder if I’ll ever feel the same —
as I did that day.
The weight in my chest, is from emptiness;
It seems all I am good for,
is getting undressed.
A purse, a trophy, shown off to impress—
As their mouth’s suggested.
I’m too upset to cry, for now.
My well for this, has finally run dry, somehow.
I fear it did some time ago,
Deep beneath my chest.
Death — sits like the wish I’d made, when you were around.
Waiting for my feet to touch the ground,
I still haven’t been found.
There is no denial, I’d made the right choice,
Though, I seem to have lost more
Than only my voice.
A heart left along the way,
In the streams of red, I bled like rain;
I hardly remember those days.
And in them, my heart had been washed away.
Walking through the land of the decayed,
I am half alive, and they are half awake;
Waiting for my last breath,
Wishing for it to come,
To carry me away.
Then will the pain stop pulsing through these tired veins?
Perhaps not, so I begin to sing.
I have a long way to go, in this body I call my home.
Porch light on but flickering.
